Bancroft Ponds

Interpretation in Bancroft Ponds Park, guided by the neighborhood council and Missoula Stormwater, offers visitors an opportunity to slow down and explore nature in the middle of the city. The experience provides visitors with an introduction to the wetland and natural park in the stormwater system, an introduction to the wildlife that can be found in the park, and stewardship tips to inspire activities at home.

Project Goals

  • Visitors to Bancroft Ponds will find a connection with the natural elements on site through education and guided exploration that will inspire interest in learning more
  • Visitors will know how Bancroft Ponds fits into a larger landscape of the park system of developed and natural parks and will identify other parks to visit and explore
  • Visitors will understand how Bancroft Ponds functions in the stormwater system as a major part of the city’s hydrology, working as a natural filtering area that helps provide clean surface water to the Bitterroot River
  • Visitors to Bancroft Ponds will leave with tangible ideas for how to be stewards of Bancroft Ponds that translate to backyard and neighborhood stewardship
