Glacial Lake Missoula

Project Scope

The Glacial Lake Missoula interpretive exhibit connects the Ravalli County Museum to the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail. The Ravalli County Museum, located in Hamilton, Montana, serves to acquire, preserve, and interpret the historical and cultural heritage of the Bitterroot Valley and people of Ravalli County, Montana. The outdoor exhibit features a large glacial erratic and exhibit panels that tell the story of Glacial Lake Missoula in the Bitterroot Valley and the floods that impacted the land, west to the Pacific Ocean.

Project Objectives

  • Create an interpretive exhibit on Glacial Lake Missoula at the Ravalli County Museum as part of the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail
  • Enhance the eastern corridor of the IAFNGT, connecting with the Montana Natural History Center and the Paradise School House
  • Interpret GLM lake features present in the Bitterroot Valley
